Johor Bahru is about to trade city traffic for race-track thunder. Come late 2025, Malaysia will welcome the Sunway Circuit Iskandar Puteri, a state-of-the-art motorsport complex built to FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A standards. This isn’t just another racing venue—it’s a bold declaration that Johor Bahru is ready to host the world’s biggest motorsport spectacles, from Formula 1 Grand Prix to MotoGP battles.

The Perfect Location

Strategically positioned within Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, the circuit sits just a short drive from the Singapore–Malaysia Second Link and Senai International Airport. This makes it a prime motorsport destination not just for Malaysians, but also for fans flying in from Singapore and across the globe. The circuit aims to position Johor Bahru as Southeast Asia’s ultimate racing hub—blending international accessibility with regional flair.

Designed by a Motorsport Mastermind

The track carries the signature of Hermann Tilke, the German architect behind iconic Formula 1 venues such as Sepang International Circuit, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, and Circuit of the Americas in Texas. Measuring 4.5 km, the main track has already been paved and promises a technical yet thrilling layout surrounded by scenic water features that enhance both safety and spectacle.

More Than Just a Track

Sunway Circuit isn’t built to be a one-event wonder. It’s a comprehensive motorsport playground that includes:

  • A 1.5 km professional karting circuit

  • A hill-climb course

  • A 4×4 off-road adventure track

  • An advanced driving park for training and safety programs

To match world-class competition standards, the circuit will also house cutting-edge paddocks, hospitality suites, media centers, and VIP lounges—ensuring it meets the expectations of international race teams and fans alike.

Game-Changer for Southeast Asia

While Singapore boasts its glittering night race at Marina Bay, Sunway Circuit sets itself apart as a permanent, purpose-built facility. This gives it a competitive edge to host a wider variety of motorsport events year-round, potentially luring both Formula 1 and MotoGP away from relying solely on existing regional circuits. For Malaysia, it’s a step beyond Sepang—an investment in motorsport’s future.

Development is already speeding ahead, with the main track laid and infrastructure steadily progressing. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2025, just in time to welcome its first wave of roaring engines and international fans.

Sunway Circuit is more than just asphalt and grandstands—it’s a cultural and economic statement. Beyond attracting global motorsport events, the project is expected to drive tourism, create jobs, and elevate Malaysia’s standing in the international sporting community. Soon, Johor Bahru won’t just be the city you pass on the way to Singapore—it’ll be the destination motorsport lovers circle on their calendars.
