Picture this: You’re cruising down the highway, hands off the wheel, while immersed in an epic boss battle or streaming your favourite series. That’s the promise of the Afeela 1, the first electric vehicle from Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture that’s fusing automotive engineering with next-level entertainment.
First revealed in concept form in 2023 and now headed for production, the Afeela 1 is designed to blur the line between transportation and living-room leisure. Sony brings its entertainment ecosystem—including PlayStation, movies, music, and AI—while Honda provides decades of automotive expertise and EV manufacturing.
More Than an EV: A Smart, Self-Driving Entertainment Pod
Equipped with roughly 40 sensors, including lidar, radar, and cameras, the Afeela 1 offers Level 3 autonomous driving under certain conditions. This means the car can take control on highways and in specific traffic scenarios, freeing you to enjoy in-car entertainment without compromise.
The most headline-grabbing feature? A built-in PS5 gaming experience—either through onboard hardware or Sony’s Remote Play—paired with a full-width panoramic dashboard screen and a Sony 360 Spatial Sound System. Whether parked or cruising in autonomous mode, passengers can dive into AAA gaming, movies, or streaming apps, all wrapped in immersive sound and visuals.

Customisable Interior Themes & AI Personal Agent
From Marvel-themed dashboard layouts to dynamic ambient lighting, the Afeela 1’s cabin is a fully customisable space. The AI-powered Afeela Personal Agent handles navigation, entertainment, and even vehicle settings through natural voice commands, making it feel more like a smart assistant than a standard infotainment system.
Under the tech-heavy shell lies serious EV engineering:
91 kWh battery with an estimated 300-mile range
All-wheel drive for year-round grip
Tesla Supercharger compatibility for fast and convenient charging
Production is slated to begin in Ohio in 2026, with a starting price of US $89,900 for the Origin trim and US $102,900 for the Signature trim. Initial sales will target California, with a wider rollout planned.
The Afeela 1 isn’t just another premium EV—it’s a glimpse into a future where cars aren’t defined solely by horsepower or range, but by the experiences they deliver while you ride. As autonomous driving tech advances, expect more automakers to compete on entertainment, personalisation, and digital services.
