In a highly anticipated move, BYD Sime Darby Motors has officially launched the BYD Atto 2 in Malaysia on 24 July 2025, with a public test drive event taking place from 25–27 July at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur. Positioned as a stylish and compact EV crossover, the Atto 2 is expected to set a new standard in Malaysia’s growing electric vehicle market.
But what sets this model apart from its global counterparts—and why is it attracting so much buzz?

A Bigger Battery Than the Global Variant
Unlike the China or European models which come with 32kWh or 45.12kWh Blade LFP batteries, the Malaysian variant ships with a 51.13kWh Blade battery. This gives the car a NEDC-rated range of 410km, which translates to around 340–350km WLTP, offering better mileage than its international siblings.
This upgrade positions the Atto 2 above the BYD Dolphin while still undercutting the Atto 3, making it a sweet spot for buyers looking for balanced performance and practicality.

Right-Hand Drive and Feature-Rich Interior
Malaysia’s version features a right-hand drive layout with a column-mounted gear selector stalk, a departure from the left-hand drive centre-console configuration used in China. This not only reflects BYD’s attention to regional needs but also enhances cabin space and ergonomics.
Inside, you’ll find:
12.8-inch rotatable infotainment display
8.8-inch digital instrument cluster
Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Ventilated synthetic leather seats
50W wireless phone charger
360-degree camera system
Advanced ADAS suite with AEB, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist
The BYD Atto 2 is powered by a 130kW front-mounted motor delivering 177PS and 290Nm of torque, pushing the EV from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.9 seconds. Charging-wise:
AC charging: Up to 7kW (some sources cite onboard 11kW support)
DC fast charging: Up to 82kW (30–80% in 28 minutes)
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support: Up to 3.3kW for powering electronics or appliances on the go
The official price of the BYD Atto 2 in Malaysia is RM100,000, on-the-road without insurance. However, industry experts suggest this is more of a legal pricing floor for CBU (fully imported) EVs in Malaysia rather than the true cost of the vehicle. Analysts estimate the true value—based on China pricing and import costs—to be closer to RM85,000–90,000.
For early adopters, BYD is sweetening the deal with a launch package worth RM13,500, including:
6-month RM0 instalment plan
Free wallbox charger installation (or Sime Platinum 4+ EV concierge service for condo dwellers)
Accessories like V2L adapters and a portable 3-pin EV charger
Buyers will enjoy extensive after-sales support with:
6 years / 150,000km general vehicle warranty
8 years / 160,000km battery warranty
8 years / 150,000km drive unit warranty
Is the Atto 2 Worth It?
With its enhanced battery size, regional layout customization, and advanced interior features, the BYD Atto 2 is one of Malaysia’s most value-packed electric vehicles under RM100K. It’s the perfect entry point for first-time EV buyers seeking a blend of tech, design, and performance—without the premium EV price tag.
