Venus Williams is back on the court, and she is hoping to have her sister Serena Williams join her. At 44, the seven time Grand Slam champion is doing what she loves which is playing tennis. Even though she’s thrilled to be back in action, Venus admits there is one thing she is missing, her sister, Serena.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Venus expressed her hope that Serena would come out of retirement to join the fun. It was a heartfelt response from the older Williams sister, who has spent a significant part of her career alongside Serena, whether as doubles partners, practice partners, or just traveling the circuit together.
While Serena said her goodbyes in 2022 after an emotional farewell at the US Open, Venus has continued to play through injuries and long breaks from the sport. Her return this season has reminded everyone of the passion and resilience that made her a pioneer in tennis.
I’m so happy to be back here, Venus said about her return to the tour. ''And I hope Serena will change her mind." Although Serena has moved on to her careers as a businesswoman, fashion designer, and a mother of two, Venus still holds onto the hope of sharing the court with her sister again, even if it is just for one match.
Their story has always been about more than just tennis titles. Two sisters from Compton who came to dominate the sport, inspiring an entire generation of people around the globe. Even now, with Serena in retirement, their bond remains as strong as ever.
For Venus, playing isn’t just about winning tournaments anymore. It is about staying connected to the sport she loves and maybe, just maybe, hoping her little sister will pick up a racket again, so they can relive that magic together.
